When my cousin Hunter called on a Sunday afternoon and said all of the Greer’s Ferry Dam gates were open (which is a rare occurrence) and asked if I wanted to boat up the Little Red River to see it, I, of course, said YES. I love spontaneous outings, especially when they get me outside in nature. We only had a little window of time to be gone, so we quickly jumped in the car, picked up his boat and headed to Heber Springs.
Yeah, it was freezing cold and yeah, there might have been a hick-up in our plans when the boat ran out of gas and I had to hold onto some random dock while Hunter searched for gas.. haha.. But what’s an adventure without something going a little wrong?! (side note: I thought about asking if we had enough gas before we got on the boat, but then I thought, “na, having enough gas is an obvious, right? Especially, with an experienced boater.” …I should have asked.) We had a good laugh over it and it’s always a great time when you are with great company. I’m thankful my cousin knows to call me when he has ideas like this.
Seeing massive amounts of water flooding out of the dam was pretty cool, but it was the adventure of it all that makes it memorable.
Enjoy.
