Tourist-type day

We woke up in Kampala, Uganda this beautiful morning. We stayed at an oasis of a place a bit outside the city. Lydia’s father, brother, and brother-in-law will be with us most of this trip and we are excited to get to know them and hear their experience living and ministering in various ways. Today was mostly a tourist-type day. The Taylors wanted us to get to know the culture and history of Uganda by touring a few historic places around the city. We visited Uganda National Mosque on the center hill in the middle of the city. Interesting thing is that this mosque was a gift from Gaddafi in 2006. It fascinated me that this is a center point in the capitol of Uganda yet less than 15% of the population is actually Muslim. Then we visited the palace and it’s grounds. We stopped for some local food before heading to see another religious sight, the Basilica of the Uganda Martyrs and it’s grounds. After making our way around many of the historical highlighted sites of the city we ended the day visiting Bead for Life which is a non-profit organization supporting and teaching women sustainable opportunities to lift themselves out of poverty. Also, Lydia had a fun surprise because an old friend from back in primary school worked there!

It was a good day and a great way to ease into our survey trip. I am thankful for the glimpse at Ugandan life in the city and pray this more thorough understanding turns out to be an even greater blessing in the long run.
